Van Gogh supposedly painted a series of paintings involving irises during the his later years. "Irises" in particular, were inspired by Japanese Ukiyo-e paintings and woodprints which frequently feature scenes from nature. I enjoy this painting in particular because it is very mundane and evokes a sense of calmness and airy-ness which can be quite relaxing during examination times.
